Tax-free IRA Distribution
Thanks to temporary changes in IRS code through the Pension Protection Act, taxpayers who are at least 70 1/2 years old may make tax-free charitable distributions directly to a non-profit organization from a traditional or ROTH IRA.

The new law allows qualified individuals to transfer up to $100,000 in a given year directly from an IRA to a charitable organization, like the Alzheimer’s Association, Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter, and pay no income tax on that distribution.

Please note that the donation must be transferred directly from the IRA to the charity. Donors may not personally take possession of the withdrawn funds and later make a gift to a charity and still benefit from a tax-free distribution.

The Pension Protection Act is only in effect until December 31, 2007. Speak with your financial advisor to ensure this new and temporary opportunity meets your financial and philanthropic goals.
