Listen to Me, I am Still Somebody
featuring Sandra Kehoe, RN
Sandra Kehoe is a Registered Nurse with more than thirty years of
experience in health care fields including assisted living, Alzheimer’s education,
long-term and acute care and hospital risk management. Sandra’s interest
in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia started in 1983 when the nursing home
she worked for attempted to develop an Alzheimer’s and dementia unit.
She became involved with the Alzheimer’s Association and attended
workshops, seminars, and family support groups to increase her knowledge
of this devastating disease. The pain and sadness expressed by the
families she met through the support groups left a lasting impression
on Sandra. She began to focus on community education and began lecturing,
facilitating support groups, and setting up workshops for other professionals.
After 25 years of caring and working for Alzheimer’s disease
patients and their families, Sandra felt it was time to put this
vital information into written form. Listen to Me, I am Still Somebody
introduces the Alzheimer’s disease patient to their caregivers and the
community at large.
“Family caregivers are not the only ones affected by the disease.
The professional caregiver, medical personnel, the police, emergency
services and our community at large will find themselves interacting
with the Alzheimer’s Diseases sufferer. This book is meant for all of them.”
The book discusses the devastating disease process associated with
Alzheimer's, yet the audience will laugh and perhaps cry a little,
but really begin to understand the impact of the process from both
a patient and caregiver perspective.
The purpose of Listen to Me, I am Still Somebody is to bring
peace to families and encouragement to professionals who work
with persons with dementia. The reader will learn communication
techniques and behavior management skills that will help them shape
the specialized environment needed by the person with dementia.
The reader will also learn important stress management and coping
skills that will help them care for himself or herself as well as
the Alzheimer’s disease patient.
