This presentation will discuss the relationship between cognitive capacity and client ability to participate in decision-making related to legal documentation. We will discuss varying levels of cognitive incapacity and describe the relationship between client cognitive capacity and the appropriateness of certain legal decisions. Throughout the discussion we will shed light upon the ethical considerations that must be made when assisting cognitively compromised persons with legal decision-making.
Objectives (if you need them): 1. Recognize cognitive limitations in clients. 2. Review legal documentation that is commonly used for/with caregivers and persons with dementia. 3. Examine the ethical implications of completing legal documentation with and for persons with dementia
