Alzheimer's Management: New Directions for a 100-Year Old Disease
Each November, the Alzheimer’s Association Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter proudly presents our annual
Schlicting Education Conference designed to commemorate Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.
The conference is supported in part by a bequest from the Schlicting family in memory
of their parents, Edna and Fred Schlicting.
This year marked the 100th year since Dr. Alois Alzheimer first described
Alzheimer’s disease, and our conference commemorated this date by focusing
on “New Directions for a 100-Year-Old Disease.” The day featured our plenary
speaker, Dr. James Ferrendelli from the University of Texas-Houston Medical
Center, who addressed the “100 Year Journey” and Ms. Shelley Fabares, actress
and National Spokesperson for the Alzheimer’s Association, as our keynote
speaker who spoke candidly about her experiences with caregiving for her mother,
an Alzheimer’s patient. In addition, our 2006 conference featured an
impressive schedule of presenters, representing a diverse collection of
institutions from the Houston area.
Thank you to all of our speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors for making the
conference a success! Many thanks to our conference committee, who
did an outstanding job coordinating this year’s event!
